Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is making futile efforts to organize meetings with Russia’s president and prime minister, said former Speaker of Parliament of Georgia and current leader of the Democratic Movement–United Georgia party, Nino Burjanadze.
“Saakashvili occasionally sends invitations to Moscow, to Medvedev and Putin; however, they don’t accept them,” said Burjanadze. “Saakashvili wants to hold, if not open, then private, talks with them. However, Russia’s president and prime minister decline,” added the former parliamentary speaker. The Georgian president had previously criticized all those opposition party members who spoke of the necessity of normalizing relations with Russia.
