Increase in smart phones’ capabilities makes them more vulnerable to hacker attacks. Researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey recently demonstrated how vulnerable the smartphone might be after the use of malicious software called rootkits.
The latters might turn your smartphone into a tracking system. According to the source, smartphones are more dangerous than computers as people carry them all the time and the hackers can bug, trace locations up to gaining personal data about the user. The source quotes Liviu Iftode, professor of computer science at Rutgers, “What we’re doing today is raising a warning flag. We’re showing that people with general computer proficiency can create rootkit malware for smart phones. The next step is to work on defenses.” Using Openmoko FreeRunner, his group however discovered that with due efforts and time any smartphone system is imperiled to malicious software attacks.
