 February 26, Turkish Supreme Court authorized arrest of 11 military officers, including 2 retired charged with planning a coup.
On February 25, the court discharged from custody three retired generals: Turkish Air Force General and Commander of the Turkish Air Force Ibrahim Firtina, Former Navy Commander Adm. Ozden Ornek and Chief of the General Staff General Ergin Saygun. 49 high ranking military officials, including 21 generals and 27 high ranking officers were arrested on February 22. Sledgehammer action plan comprised 4 clauses and after their implementation coup d’etat would be staged. The plan envisaged explosion of a mosque at the Friday prayer, landing of fighter aircrafters in Aegean Sea. The mentioned actions had to reveal weaknesses of ruling Justice and Development party.
