On March 8, Minsk hosted the Belarus Super Cup football tournament with champion BATE and cup holder Naftan competing. No goal was scored during the main time, and the game ended in a tie.

However, more successful eleven-metre kicks followed, especially those by BATE players, among them also Hovhannes Goharyan from Armenian youth and national team. Goharyan entered the game at the 55th minute.

The Armenian attacker, who was transferred to Belarus in February 2009, also became a Belarus Super Cup holder. Earlier, he had become a Belarus champion.
